Leaving Sami they passed a big sign saying 'Corelli films' pointing off to the right. 'Stop! Stop!
came
the plaintive cries from the back seat as John did not slow the car. 'Captain Corelli, it says
so on
the sign.' the girls were shouting.
'It's not on today's itinerary.' John was firm.
'Then what did we come for?'
'Well yes we do want to meet him, but not now there's no time.'
'Why not, your mean.' There was sullen silence from the rear.
'No, the sun only shines in through the hole and illuminates the water between 12 and 12.30. We've
only ten minutes to get there and we're bound to get stuck behind a coach load of wrinklies. We
can go back there after lunch.'
There was much pouting from the back seat. Luckily there there were no coaches when they got
there and went got straight in without queuing. 15000 Drs each lighter they walked down the sloping
path to the lake. Sure enough the light was on the lake and it glowed bright blue.
In 15 minutes they
had been rowed round the lake and been serenaded by the boatman to demonstrate the acoustics
and echo. Where sun had moved off the lake it was a dull blue back again.

As they were leaving they had to fight their way though the coach loads of tripers who were just
arriving and desperate to see the lake while it was still illuminated.
'I wonder why the the coach drivers all seem to have waited till it's too late.' Mused Dick, he
wasn't terribly enthraled by it all. It was one of tourist sites that have developed simply to
provide
the trippers with something to do and part them from some money. 'If the sun hadn't been shining
on the water it would have been pretty unimpressive.' The others nodded. 'Did you notice the drill
holes in the roof of the walk way where they blasted it out?' John nodded and the boys continued
discussing mining techniques. The girls went off to pick wild flowers.
By the time they left the coaches were arriving in numbers and the sun was no longer shining on the
water.
