Cephalonia Holiday in the Greek Ionion Islands, Kefalonia

siltreevsml Argostoli, Kefalonia

Argostolli is the capital of the island and largest town (don't worry it's not that big a place).  The photo is taken from the monument constructed by Major Charles-Phillipe de Bosset a Swiss officer serving with the British Army who was in charge of the Island from 1809-12 and who built the Trapano Bridge which still crosses he bay from Argostolli today.

Dick and John stood by the monument.  The causeway came straight as a die from the far side of the bay to the monument.  At the last moment the bridge veered off the the left leaving a dead end that stopped 10 yards from the stone obelisk.  The low parapet had been knocked into the water and never replaced.  At night it must be very easy to go straight on into bay.

'I wonder why they have not replaced the wall.' John mused.

'Probably because it would damage the cars more, as it is, they can just pull them out of the drink and at least the bodywork and most of the mechanics will be reusable.'

'Ah yes, very probably.'  Nodded John.

'Let's go and have a beer.' Said Tipsy and they both nodded

    • Why did Gerry enlist the the help of a young lad fishing?
    • Why did all the Brits nearly get run over?

Bessey the poor old cow stood  patiently on the truck in the midday sun.  In the chaos that ensued when the ferry docked, the only one to get priority was the cow.  Everyone else had to fight for their place.  The 5 lost and had to wait for the next ferry.

'Let's go and have another beer.'  Said Tipsy and they all traipsed off across the road again.
